The Sustainable Resources Verification Scheme (SURE) is a voluntary certification system that verifies the sustainability of biomass and bio-based products along the value chain and ensures compliance with the EU sustainability criteria of the Renewable Energy Directive (2023/2413 – RED III).

SURE is a sister system to REDcert. The SURE system is primarily relevant for biomass used to generate electricity, heat, and cooling, whereas REDcert focuses primarily on biofuels and bioliquids. Since SURE and REDcert are mutually recognized, it is possible to certify part of the supply chain under REDcert and another part under SURE, thus ensuring compliance with the verification requirement across the entire supply chain.
